Keeping the McNeese Rodeo Team Strong

Everyone has been impacted by the coronavirus, and the McNeese Rodeo Team is no different. Due to the restrictions on gatherings and events during the shutdown and stay-at-home orders throughout the spring 2020 semester, two of our scholarship fundraisers were canceled.

Our school day rodeo brings over 2000 elementary aged children to watch our Cowgirls and Cowboys in action and generates approximately $10,000 in funds. The McNeese Celebrity Boxing Challenge invites aspiring boxers to participate in a night of action and sports enthusiasts to come and watch. This event raises approximately $30,000.

What this means for McNeese Rodeo now is that we are missing $40,000 in scholarship awards. Our rodeo student-athletes have excelled in competitions the last two years and brought numerous championships and accolades for themselves and McNeese State University.

In the 2019-20 year, the men’s team finished as the Southern Region champions, and the women’s team finished as reserve champions. Other titles won included two individual event champions, men’s all-around champion and four more reserve champions.

In the 2018-19 year, we brought home two consecutive National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association Women’s Team National Titles. In the past 15 years, we have won two national women’s team titles, one reserve national champion women’s title, one men’s reserve national champion team title, 12 individual national titles and 11 top three finishes in the nation.

We are asking for your help to raise scholarship funding for our outstanding and deserving rodeo student-athletes. With any donation amount, you will receive two tickets to our home rodeo on October 30-31, 2020. Join in supporting the only collegiate rodeo program in Louisiana, and we will continue to make McNeese State University, Lake Charles and Louisiana proud.
